Wimbledon Is Back and Iām Living for the Vibes (Not the Tennis Matches, Sorry š š¾)
Okay sooo⦠it's July again. And you know what that means? Wimbledon is back, baby.
Now before you roll your eyes; no, I am not suddenly a tennis superfan. Iām not staying up all night watching five-hour matches or memorizing player stats. Thatās more my little sisterās thing. And honestly? Sheās thriving. Our TV has officially been taken hostage by Eurosport. Itās basically tennis 24/7 in our living room now. My parents are right there with her, fully locked in. Me? Iām more like: "This is cute, but also⦠whereās the remote?"
BUT. And this is a big but, I actually do really love Wimbledon. Not the matches themselves, but everything around it. The vibes?? Immaculate. The āØaestheticāØ?? Literally unmatched. Like, if tennis were a Pinterest board, Wimbledon would be the one called āvintage garden party meets royalcore.ā
Let me explain.
The all-white dress code?? Iām obsessed.
First of all, everyone has to wear white. Not kinda-white. Not cream. Not beige. Iām talking pure, crisp, hotel-sheet, snowstorm white. And it looks SO GOOD. I'm sorry but white tennis skirts are just elite. They give āIām the main character in a 2004 rom-com and my name is probably Charlotte or Blair.ā
Meanwhile, other tournaments have players out here in neon yellow and flame-orange tops like itās a sports drink commercial. Ew. Wimbledon said we are elegant, and honestly, I love that for them.
Fun fact I googled: the white dress code is supposed to represent elegance and uniformity. Which tracks. But tbh, I think they should make certain fabrics mandatory too because some of the player outfits still give... confusing. š
The grass courts are THE moment.
Letās talk about the courts. Theyāre not clay (ew, red-orange mess), and theyāre not boring hardcourt gray. Theyāre real, soft, lush green grass. Literal garden party energy. Itās so clean, so fresh, so British countryside. I would honestly picnic there (if that was allowed, which itās totally not, lol).
Also, tennis was originally played on grass, so itās like Wimbledon is the ultimate throwback. Vintage tennis vibes. I love it here.
The whole place looks like a Jane Austen set.
Wimbledon takes place at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Yes, that is its actual name. I KNOW. Could it sound any fancier?? Like I fully imagine they serve cucumber sandwiches and Earl Grey with a little ācheersā before each sip.
The buildings are all very old-timey and covered in ivy, and the whole thing just feels like a posh country club youād read about in a classic novel. Itās giving āPride & Prejudice meets athletic wear,ā and I support that crossover.
Also, get this, Wimbledon has been going since 1877. Thatās almost 150 YEARS of tennis and tradition and very serious clapping from the audience. Insane.
NO ADS ON THE COURT. BLESS.
Unlike basically every other sports event ever, Wimbledon doesnāt slap ads all over the court. There are no giant logos or pop-up banners screaming āBUY THIS SPORTS DRINK.ā Itās just white outfits, green grass, and quiet vibes.
It might cost them some $$$, but honestly? Worth it. It keeps everything looking clean, calm, and classy. Aesthetic > capitalism. Sometimes. š¤
The audience is like⦠polite??? Weirdly refreshing.
People actually behave at Wimbledon. Nobodyās yelling random stuff or booing the players. Everyone claps at the right times and just kind of respects the moment. Itās lowkey refreshing compared to the chaos at other tournaments.
It kind of reminds me of being in a really fancy library. Everyoneās serious, focused, and wearing linen. Vibes only.
I love the idea of Wimbledon more than the tennis itself.
I probably won't watch a full match unless Iām trapped on the couch with my sister. BUT I will happily scroll through outfit pics, sip my iced coffee, and pretend Iām the mysterious girl who summered in London and fell in love with a charming young tennis player. Wimbledon is basically āØtenniscore fantasyāØ, and I am here. for. it.
If you need me, Iāll be in my imaginary tennis whites, reading a book, and pretending I belong at Centre Court.
Have you read Carrie Soto is back?? The PERFECT tennis girl vibes and I heard theyāre making a movie šæ
